We are super excited to welcome Mark Pendlington to join our PRO STAFF! With 30 years television filming experience fishing on the West Coast, Mark brings with him a wealth of experience. Having tested our products Mark states, “I tested all Westcoast gear this filming season and could not believe the difference in quality components from their mooching rods, jigging rods, swim baits, turd hootchies and unique new flashers on big salmon. These guys know quality and innovative gear from the magic Little Phat-E Gold UV 2.5 on big chinook salmon feeding off 50ft gravel shoals targeting sand lance and the bullet proof Black & Blue 3.5 Phat-E matched this years smaller herring spawn size perfectly for the most consistent number of big fish episodes in years! I look forward to continued testing of Westcoast Fishing Tackle quality innovative gear for years to come!”

From a very young age, fishing has been a part of who I am—though, truth be told, I really didn’t have a choice! My family owned and operated a fishing lodge on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, and my parents actually met while working as fishing guides. Fishing wasn’t just a pastime in our household; it was a way of life. After college, I explored different career paths that aligned with my love for the outdoors and an adventurous lifestyle. That journey eventually led me to become a fishing guide on Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, following in my parents’ footsteps while carving my own path in the industry.
QCL stood out to me as a place where I could combine my passion for fishing with the opportunity to grow as a guide and as a professional. Since starting my guiding career, I’ve expanded my knowledge of hospitality, saltwater gear, and the broader fishing industry—all while working in one of the most breathtaking places in British Columbia. One of the things I love most about QCL is how it embraces diversity and creates opportunities for women in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry. Here, women are not just welcomed—we are supported, empowered, and given every opportunity to thrive. Learning from some of the most talented fishermen and fisherwomen has been invaluable, and I’m proud to be part of this evolving space. Now, as I head into my 11th season at QCL, I can’t help but reflect on how special this journey has been. Every day, I get to share my passion for fishing, help guests create lasting memories, and watch others fall in love with the ocean just as I did. There’s something truly magical about Haida Gwaii—it has a way of bringing people together, forging connections, and leaving an imprint on your soul.
For me, fishing isn’t just a career—it’s who I am. It’s in my blood, and it’s on the horizon every morning when I wake up. I feel incredibly grateful to be part of this industry and to represent the growing number of women making waves in the world of sport fishing. So, to all the women out there who dream of working on the water—go for it. The ocean doesn’t care about gender; it rewards passion, skill, and resilience. There’s space for all of us out here, and the tide is turning.
Tight lines & see you on the water!

I grew up in Alberta, where my passion for fishing started early thanks to my dad, who taught me the ins and outs of fly fishing. Those days on the river with him sparked a lifelong love for the sport and for being outdoors. Fishing quickly became more than just a hobby—it was something that grounded me, challenged me, and always brought me back to nature.
That love for the outdoors eventually led me to pursue a nursing career on Vancouver Island, where I could stay connected to the lifestyle I value so much. The Island’s rugged coastline, wild rivers, and world-class fishing opportunities made it the perfect place to call home.
I’ve been lucky enough to turn my passion for fishing into more than just a personal pursuit. Its an opportunity where I get to share what I love with others—whether it’s introducing someone to fishing for the first time or helping them land a fish they’ll never forget.
My goal is always to pass on that same excitement and appreciation for the sport that my dad gave me. If I can help someone build that same connection to the water, then I know I’m doing something right.

Born and raised in a small town of 200 on northern Vancouver Island, David grew up in the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, dirt biking, or ATVing, there wasn’t a time when he wasn’t exploring mother nature. David’s family started Serengeti Fishing Charters in Port Hardy in 2006 and he now runs and owns the company with 5 twenty eight to thirty foot Pursuits.
When not guiding in the summer you’ll find him out with his two young daughters teaching them how to drive the boat and catch fish.
Catching fish is one of his ultimate passions so to say he enjoys putting a lot of fish on the dock might be an understatement. Because of this, David knew there is only one company to team up with, and that is West Coast Fishing Tackle. Be sure to watch his socials for great tips on north island fishing and what’s working for shallow water salmon fisheries.
